John Davies McGregor (SN 156) was born at Ballarat, was a tentmaker, single and aged 26 when he enlisted at Ballarat on 19 August 1914, His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Wiltshire on 19 October 1914. He was admitted to hospital in Alexandria in November 1915 and rejoined unit from A Camp Gallipoli on 23 January 1916. He continued to serve with the AMC during which time he was admitted at different times to hospital for influenza, boils and other symptoms. He embarked for Australia on 8 August 1918 and was discharged on 17 December 1918.
