Biography

Albert Smith was born at Ballarat and was to became a Cab driver and at age 22, single, enlisted from Ballarat on 19 August 1914. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on 19 October 1914. Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 5 April 1915. Rejoined unit, Tel el Kebir, from 'A' Camp, Gabbari, 23 January 1916. He was admitted to hospital for Pyrexia at Alexandria 6/2/16 and rejoined unit 29/2/16 and back to hospital 15/8/16, Appendicitis 16/8/16. He returned to Australia 31 March 1919. His Tree No. 144.
