Andrew George Brown (SN 8000) born at Warrnambool, was a married 40 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on October 19th 1915. Just three weeks later he embarked aboard the Bakara and sailed to Egypt to serve as a driver with the Service Corps. While in Egypt he was hospitalised with bronchial catarrh but was able to move to France in June 1916. While he had some bouts of illness, he avoided battle wounds and after the war ended he was granted leave to travel to Australia at his own expense. His service record indicates he planned to travel to Brazil to work as a metallurgist but there is no record of him being heard of again, with speculation he may have died in a mine accident in South America. In January 1920 he was struck off strength as a deserter.
