Biography

Leslie Joseph Vernon was born in Grenville, VIC and was a Clerk in Ballarat when he enlisted in the 18th Company, Australian Army Service Corps on 12 July 1915 at the age of 22. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A41 Bakara on 5 November 1915. In June 1916 he arrived in France to serve with the 18th Company ASC. He was fortunate in being one of those who served through the war without significant wounds or illness. After the war he returned home on the Trasos Montes, disembarking at Melbourne on May 22nd 1919.
