Alexander Walter Grant (SN 8048) born at Ballarat, was a 19 year old butcher when he enlisted at Ballarat on July 26th 1915. He embarked aboard the Ascanius on November 10th 1915 and sailed to Egypt. In June 1916 he was deployed to France to serve with the 29th Company Australian Service Corps. He completed his service without significant incident and returned to Australia aboard the Wyreema, disembarked at Melbourne on May 31st 1919 and was discharged on July 25th.
