William Howard Humphreys (SN 7984), born at Ballarat, was an 18 year old watch maker when he enlisted in Ballarat on September 15th 1915. He embarked from Melbourne aboard the Bakara on November 5th to serve with the Australian Army Service Corps. From late June 1916 he served in France as a driver with the 5th Division Train, recording just two significant incidents. In October 1917 he was charged for neglecting to obey and order, then in December of 1917 he sustained an accidental facial injury that had him hospitalised for several weeks. After the war he returned home on the Devanha, disembarked at Melbourne on June 23rd 1919 and was discharged on August 15th.
