Biography

Alan Robertson Scott (SN 487) was born at Ballarat where he was educated at Ballarat College and the School of Mines. The 24 year old, unmarried chemist's assistant enlisted in Melbourne on August 19th 1914 at Melbourne, and embarked from there with the 4th Light Horse Regiment on board the Wiltshire in October. He served at Gallipoli from June 1915, although ear problems interrupted his time there. He reached France in June 1916 and in June 1917 he suffered gunshot wounds and was evacuated to hospital in England. Once recovered he rejoined his unit in France in March 1918 but just a month later, he suffered a serious shrapnel wound to the head and died of his wounds on April 29th 1918. He was 27 years of age and is buried in Arneke British Cemetery, France.
