Sergeant Alfred John Bremer was born in Liverpool, NSW, and was a bank clerk when he enlisted in Ballarat on 1st June 1915. He was posted to the 45th Infantry Battalion with Regimental No. 2339. He was 26 years old and single. Sergeant Bremer was quite ill when he was admitted to Tidworth Military Hospital in UK. He was repatriated to Australia and during his treatment he died at home in Ballarat on 17th April 1919. He had contracted polio myelitis. He is buried in the Ballarat [New] Cemetery.
