Biography

Frank Oliver Cooke was born in Brunswick, VIC and was a Dairyman by trade when he enlisted in the 22nd Battalion, 3rd Reinforcement on 16 July 1915 at the age of 30. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A68 Anchises on 26 August 1915. He moved to France in April 1917 and a month later he was wounded in action, suffering a gunshot wound to his arm which required his evacuation to hospital in England. While in England he was assessed as unfit for further active service and he was returned to Australia on the A34 Persic, disembarking at Melbourne on February 12th 1918. He was discharged soon after his return as æmedically unfit – chronic rheumatism'.
