Biography

George Taylor was born at Ballarat, was a Labourer, single and at age 24 he enlisted from Ballarat on 20 August 1914. His unit left home from Melbourne on board Transport A24 Benalla on 19 October 1914. He suffered Influenza whilst in Mudros 19/7/15. After being ill again in Lemnos, was then discharged to the lines from No.2 Field Ambulance. He was taken on strength and rejoined unit 31/10/15. He had received a promotion to Corporal 11/7/16, then was promoted to Sergeant 5/9/16 whilst serving in France and was later re-admitted to Northhampton War Hospital 10/11/16. Rejoined unit from hospital 6/4/17. He was awarded a "Distinguished Conduct Medal" 1/1/18. His War service included : Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front. He returned to Australia 8 October 1918.
