Peter James Murphy was a permanent soldier who was born in Ballarat. He enlisted in Essendon on 27th August 1914. He was 20 years old and single. He joined the 7th Infantry battalion, with Regimental No. 494. On 10th May 1915 he died of wounds received at Gallipoli, and is buried in Lancashire Landing Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
