Biography

Patrick James Fraser (SN 1635) born in New South Wales, declared himself to be a 39 year old single printer when he enlisted in Ballarat on December 4th 1914. He embarked for overseas service on February 25th 1915 and sailed to Egypt. In June he reached Gallipoli to serve with the 5th Infantry Battalion but was only there a short time before haemorrhoids forced his evacuation to hospital at Mudros. He was then moved on to hospital in England and was destined to see no further battlefield action. After multiple hospital admissions he was eventually returned to Australia aboard the Aeneas. He disembarked at Melbourne on January 9th 1920 and was discharged on April 5th. His file then records that his true name was Audley Vowell Becher. He died in 1921, but his death was not attributable to his military service.
