Joseph George Farrell Dakin (SN 1030) born at Majorca near Talbot, was a 28 year old bricklayer when he enlisted in Adelaide on January 6th 1915. As a reinforcement for the 9th Light Horse Regiment, he embarked from Adelaide aboard the Afric on May 26th and sailed to Egypt. In April 1916 he was transferred to the 13th Field Artillery Brigade. In November 1917 he was severely gassed in France and evacuated to hospital in England. When the war ended, he returned to Australia aboard the Berrima, disembarked at Adelaide on February 15th 1919 and was discharged on April 11th.
His brothers Ernest and Augustine also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
