William Fry (SN 1501) born in Melbourne, was a married 35 year old marine engineer when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 16th 1915. Assigned to the 24th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Euripides on May 8th but on May 25th he fell through a grate on the deck and injured his spine. Consequently, he was transferred to the Hororata and returned to Australia where he disembarked on August 25th and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on October 20th 1915.
