Biography

Solomon Barnet Bentwitch (SN 1914) of the Jewish faith, was born at Creswick and was a 31 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 12th 1915. Assigned to the 6th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Hororata on April 17th and sailed to Egypt. In August 1916 he travelled on to England where it seems his service was restricted to the AIF Depot Headquarters, although his service record shows he was ‘brought to the notice of the Secretary of State for War for valuable services rendered in connection with the war’. After the war he returned home aboard the Delta, disembarked at Melbourne on March 10th 1919 and was discharged on April 9th.
