William Campbell enlisted in Ballarat, Victoria at the age of 19 on the 6th of May 1915. He had been born in Clunes, Victoria, was single, and was employed as a Gas Fitter. He volunteered and was stationed with the 23rd Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement later transferring to the 22nd Battalion with the Regimental number 1691. He was Killed in Action on the 5th of August 1916. He is buried at Villers-Bretonneux Cemetery, France Tree number 1593.
