Biography

William de Faye Lovett (SN 2931) was Ballarat born and attended Macarthur Street State School. He was a 26 year old, unmarried orchardist when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 22nd 1915. He was posted to the 12th Infantry Battalion and left Australia in late September on board the Hororata. While training in Egypt he transferred to the 52nd Battalion and was promoted to Lance Corporal, prior to his arrival in France in June 1916. He was killed during the fighting at Mouquet Farm, has no known grave, and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
