Biography

Born in Ballarat, George Richard Holden (SN 3047) was a singe 20 year old telegraph mechanic when he enlisted on the 15th of September 1919. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board the Ceramic on the 24th of November 1915.
On the 16th of October 1917, George was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to his left hand.
He was promoted to Lance Corporal on the 25th of June 1918.
On the 4th of January 1919, George was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
He returned to Australia on the 23rd of June 1919 and was discharged on the 15th of August 1919.
