Biography

Francis Joseph Murphy was a single 25 year old clerk at the time of his enlistment on the 24th of March 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A39 Port Macquarie on the 4th of June 1915.
On the 9th of May 1915 he was appointed Corporal. Francis was promoted to Second Lieutenant on the 11th of February 1917, and Lieutenant on the 5th of September 1917.
On the 4th of October 1917, Lieutenant Francis Murphy was killed in action by enemy shell fire.
He was buried at the Aeroplane Cemetery, 12 miles north-east of Ypres, France.
