Frederick James Ferguson (SN 1116) was born at Pyramid Hill and educated at Rochester State School. He was a 24 year old, unmarried book keeper when he enlisted July 24th 1915 in Ballarat, joining the 29th Infantry Battalion. In November he left Australia to travel to the battlefields of France, with a stopover in Egypt for several months. He was killed in action in the fighting near Flers on October 27th 1916. He is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
