Thomas Elgin Martin (SN 8375) born at Lethbridge, was a 21 year old driver when he enlisted at Ballarat on July 6th 1915. He embarked aboard the Ajana on December 13th and sailed to Egypt. In March 1916 he was moved to France to serve with the 2nd Field Ambulance. He served there without major incident until October 1918 when he was transferred to the 3rd Australian General Hospital. He returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff aboard the Karoola, disembarked at Melbourne on June 24th 1919 and was discharged on August 26th. He also enlisted to serve to during WW2 with service number V361539.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Elgin T. Martin.
