Biography

John Charles Pollock was born in Ballarat and was a Clerk from Durham Street, Ballarat West when he enlisted in the 6th Battalion, 18th Reinforcement on 25 September 1915 at the age of 33. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A33 Ayrshire on 3 July 1916. He received a field promotion to Corporal on 20 October 1916 before being sent to hospital for illness. He re-joined his unit in November and was temporarily assigned as Acting Sergeant. On 13 August 1918 he was wounded in action with a shrapnel wound to the left side and was immediately invalided to England. He was evacuated to Australia aboard the Brontes on 20 December 1918.
