Biography

Frank James Galvin was born in Melbourne and was a Turner by trade when he enlisted from Ballarat in the 8th Light Horse Regiment, 15th Reinforcement on 7 July 1915 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A43 Barunga on 7 April 1916. Upon arrival in Egypt he was attached to the Imperial Camel Corps. On August 1st 1916 he was hospitalised suffering from pyrexia (fever), but while in hospital was assessed as unfit for active service. He returned to Australia on the Ascanius and disembarked at Melbourne on September 29th 1916. He was discharged in November as æmedically unfit – retinitia (retinitis)'.
