Biography

Norman Lindsay McIver (SN 4656) was born in Ballarat where he enlisted as an 18 year old clerk on July 14th 1915. He embarked aboard the Ballarat on February 18th 1916 to serve with the 14th Infantry Battalion. Almost from his time of arrival in Egypt he was troubled by illness. In April 1916 he was hospitalised with influenza but by September he had been transferred seriously ill to England where it was decided he should be returned to Australia. He travelled home on the Karoola, disembarking at Melbourne on December 2nd 1916. On January 4th 1917 he was discharged as ‘medically unfit, pulmonary tuberculosis’.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Norman L. McIvor.
