Alexander George Grove (SN 12552) was born in Ballarat and attended the Urquhart Street State School. As a 20 year old draper’s assistant, he enlisted on July 8th 1915. He was posted to the 10th Machine Gun Company, departing Australia in May 1916 on board the Ascanius. Later he was attached to the 10th Field Ambulance as a medical assistant/ stretcher bearer. Whilst in hospital recovering from a wound he received in action, he accidentally fell on 8th May 1918, seriously damaging his spine, and subsequently died on the 14th May 1918. He is buried in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France.
