James Charles McLeod (SN 6863) born at Ballarat, was an 18 year old clerk when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 18th 1915. Assigned to the 4th Field Artillery Brigade as a driver, he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Wiltshire and reached France in March 1916. His service was limited by illness, and he was returned to Australia aboard the Themistocles and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on August 31st 1917. He re-enlisted in May 1919 (SN 85757) now declaring himself to be a motor mechanic and served on special transport duties until his discharge on March 4th 1920.
