Biography

James Archibald Francis Stodart (SN 2068) was born at Korong Vale near Wedderburn and was a 23 year old wool classer when he enlisted in Melbourne late in 1915. Initially assigned to the 4th Light Horse Regiment he was transferred to the 1st Anzac Cyclist Corps in France in March 1916. In June he was evacuated to hospital in England suffering from pleurisy and bronchitis. He returned to France in November but on Christmas Eve he was again hospitalised in England ‘illness severe’. He spent most of 1917 in England before being returned to Australia aboard the Corinthic. He reached Melbourne on March 3rd 1918 and was discharged on April 23rd ‘medically unfit, bronchitis’.
