Biography

James Gillan McNaughton was born at Bannockburn roughly halfway between Ballarat and Geelong , Victoria. He was a single 20 year old Farmer when he enlisted at Melbourne on 20th August 1914. He left the home land on board Transport A18 Wiltshire on 19 October 1914 from Melbourne, Victoria. He was appointed Driver on 20/10/14 and upon arriving at Alexandria joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force. On the 19/9/15 he was admitted to hospital with a septic foot at Heliopolis "Cairo". He rejoined unit 9/1/16 to "D" squadron and then caught the Mumps 20/3/16. Again rejoined unit only to be readmitted to hosp for Diptheria in Cairo 6/8/17, then more sickness with being placed into hospital again on 5/3/18 for Pyrexia "High Fever" for three weeks. He returned to Australia 7th January 1919. Tree No. 166.
