Richard Maxwell was born in Ballarat and enlisted there on 14th July 1915. He was 22 years old, single and a blacksmith. He was posted to the 22nd Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 2726. Later he was transferred to the 58th Infantry Battalion. On 21st July 1916 he died of wounds received when he was in the trenches. He is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
