Biography

Frank Henry Drew was born in Ballarat and was a Tailor by trade when he enlisted in the 23rd Battalion, 8th Reinforcement on 15 July 1915 at the age of 25. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A19 Afric on 5 January 1916, and sailed to Egypt where he was attached to the 24th Battalion. In April he was hospitalised with æeye trouble', then on May 10th he was admitted to the 3rd Auxiliary Hospital at Heliopolis with æheart trouble'. He was then assessed as unfit for active service due to æcardiac insufficiency, neurasthenia', and returned to Australia on the Clan MacGillivray, disembarking at Melbourne on August 14th. He was discharged on September 21st 1916.
