Biography

Arthur Victor Porter was born in Ballarat and was a Boot repairer living on Pleasant Street, South Ballarat with his wife, Mrs A W Porter when he enlisted in the 21st Battalion, 6th Reinforcement on 16 July 1915 at the age of 34. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Moldavia on 5 October 1915. According to his records he completed his tour of duty without major illness or injury, but was sentenced to 6 months hard labour for wilfully disobeying a direct order from a superior in march 1916. He returned home to Australia and received a discharge on 23 August 1919.
