Harry Nunn Wesson was born in London, England and was a Cook in Ballarat when he enlisted in the 8th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement on 19 July 1915 at the age of 41. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on 28 January 1916. He was transferred to the 58th Battalion in April and in June he moved to France. His time in France was destined to be short because on July 14th he was seriously wounded in action. He suffered a severe gunshot wound to the head which left him with a fractured skull and he was evacuated to hospital in England. He was returned to Australia on the Ulysses and disembarked at Melbourne on April 12th 1917. He was discharged a month later as æmedically unfit – GSW skull'.
