Biography

Virgil Creati (SN 4761) was born at Springmount near Creswick and was a 28 year old sawyer when he enlisted on July 19th 1915. He embarked aboard the Wiltshire on March 7th 1916 as a reinforcement for the 8th Infantry Battalion. Soon after reaching Egypt he was transferred to the 58th Battalion before moving to France. In November 1916 he was wounded, suffering shell shock, then in December he developed trench feet, so he was evacuated to hospital in England. He returned to France but in December 1917 his foot was accidentally crushed but the cause is not recorded in his service record. He returned to Australia aboard the Devanha, reached Melbourne on June 23rd 1919 and was discharged on August 7th.
