Biography

Carl Rasmussen was born in Lal Lal, VIC, was married and a Blacksmith living with on Doveton Crescent, Ballarat with his wife and their 7 children, when he enlisted in the 8th Battalion, 15th Reinforcement on 19 July 1915 at the age of 40. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on 7 March 1916. In April 1918 he suffered severe gas poisoning and was invalided to hospital in France where he remained until August, whereupon he re-joined his unit. However, six days after his release he was wounded a second time. He returned to Australia in May of 1919, receiving a full medical discharge on 26 October 1919.
