John O'Dea was a 19 year old farmer at the time of his enlistment on the 5th of April 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A54 Runic on the 20th of June 1916. He returned to Australia on the 12th of June 1919 and was discharged on the 27th of July 1919 due to the termination of his enlistment period.
