Biography

Stanley Crawford Gates was born in Leigh Creek, and enlisted on 21st August 1914 from Ballarat East. He was single, 25 year old, and an agent. He was a Corporal in 8th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 82. He became ill with a high fever and was evacuated to the 24th General Hospital, in the rear area, where he died on 12th March 1917 of cerebro-spinal fever. He is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
