Edward Thomas Smyth enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria at the age of 20 on the 21st of July 1915. He had been born in Port Melbourne, Victoria, was single, and was employed as a Clerk and Book Keeper. He volunteered and was stationed with the 23rd Howitzer Brigade with the Regimental number 22427. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 11th of May 1919.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Thomas H. Smythgo.
