Biography

Edward Thomas Smyth (SN 22427) was born in Melbourne and enlisted there on July 21st 1915. He embarked for active service aboard the Medic on May 20th 1916. He served predominantly with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade and managed to avoid major illness or battle wounds. After the fighting ceased, he returned to Australia aboard the Borda, disembarking at Melbourne on June 27th 1919. He was discharged on August 14th 1919.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Thomas H. Smythgo.
