Biography

George Joseph Farrell Dial [DAKIN] enlisted and served under the alias, Dakin. His real name was not discovered until after his death. He enlisted from Ballarat South, but was born in Allandale. He was 22 years old, unmarried, and a miner. He joined the 58th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 4470. He was taken on strength on his battalion in France on 23rd of June 1916, and was killed in action, less than a month later, at Fromelles on 19th July 1916. He is buried at Rue-du-Bois Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.
