Biography

Bertie Rogers (SN 4574) was born in Ballarat East and attended the Golden Point State School. He enlisted on July 19th 1915 at which time he was married to Sarah, aged 33 and employed as a hairdresser. He embarked from Melbourne in January 1916 on board the Themistocles and on reaching Egypt was assigned to the 58th Infantry Battalion. He arrived in France in June 1916 but spent much of the next few months in hospital before being evacuated to England in October. He returned to France in August 1917 and was transferred to the 15th Infantry Brigade HQ. On April 28th 1918 he was killed in action during the 2nd Battle of Villers-Bretonneux, and is buried at Daours Communal Cemetery, France.
