Biography

Jack Gadsby Allan (SN 4648) was born in Ballarat and was dux at Ballarat College in his final year before qualifying as a solicitor. He enlisted on July 20th 1915 and embarked aboard the Themistocles on January 28th 1916 to sail to Egypt. He was training with the 58th Battalion in Egypt when he became ill and was admitted to the 1st Australian Stationary Hospital in lsmailia. He died of pleuro-pneumonia on April 17th 1916 and is buried in the lsmailia War Cemetery, Egypt. He was 23 years of age.
