Biography

Isaac Foote (SN 4487) born in Geelong, was a 19 year old government employee when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 19th 1915. On January 28th 1916 he embarked aboard the Themistocles and served initially with the 58th Infantry Battalion before being transferred to the 5th Brigade Machine Gun Company. In November 1917 he was hospitalised with appendicitis. On September 30th 1918 he suffered a severe gunshot wound to his left thigh that fractured his femur. He was evacuated to hospital in England before being returned to Australia aboard the Wandilla. He reached Melbourne on May 18th 1919 and was discharged on January 6th 1920.

His brothers Hubert and Thomas also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
