Leslie John Robertson was born in Lal Lal and was a Labourer by trade when he enlisted from Ballarat in the 6th Battalion, 13th Reinforcement on 20 July 1915 at the age of 18. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes on 29 December 1915. He served through the war and after the Armistice he was granted special leave for ænon military employment' in England during which time, on August 7th 1919, he married Florence Maunders. He returned to Australia on the Marathon reaching Melbourne on December 26th and was discharged in February 1920.
