George Henry Trekardo was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Printer when he enlisted with the 39th Battalion, C Company on 29 January 1916 at the age of 22. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on 27 May 1916. He proceeded overseas to France via Southampton on 23 November 1916, reporting to hospital as sick the following month. On 7 June 1917 he was wounded in action in the field and was evacuated to hospital in France until he was able re-join his unit on 13 January 1918. Details of his injury were not given in his service records. He returned to Australia per the Rio Padre on 27 May 1919.
