Born in Sebastopol, Victoria, Roy Kent was a single 19 year old dairyman at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 21st of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on the 23rd of November 1915.
Roy returned to Australia on the 5th of June 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 28th of July 1919.
