Arthur Eales (SN 2183) was born in London and was a 30 year old seaman when he enlisted in Ballarat on October 5th 1915. He embarked aboard the Barunga on April 7th 1916 and sailed to Egypt where he served predominantly with the 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance. Like most soldiers he had some illness episodes, but he avoided serious battle wounds. He returned aboard the Dunluce Castle, disembarked on August 26th 1919 and was discharged on October 18th. He revealed after the war that his true name was Arnold Egglestone.
