Cyril Norman Saunders (SN 2161) born at Ballarat, was a single 19 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 21st 1915. He trained with the Light Horse at Seymour before he embarked aboard the Barunga on April 7th 1916.Once in Egypt he was attached to the 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance then later transferred to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron. While he avoided combat wounds his service was frequently interrupted by health issues, particularly pyrexia. After the war he returned to Australia aboard the Kildonian Castle, disembarked at Melbourne on May 7th 1919 and was discharged medically unfit on October 20th.
