John James Westrup enlisted in Ballarat, Victoria at the age of 23 on the 22nd of July 1915. He had been born in Dereel, Victoria, was Married, and was employed as a Labourer. He volunteered and was stationed with the 8th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement later transferring to the 58th Battalion with the Regimental number 4608. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 15th of May 1919.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as John J. Westrop.
