Biography

Henry George Ross (SN 4297) born at Ballarat, was a single 31 year old collar maker when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 22nd 1915. Assigned to the 14h Infantry Battalion, he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Demosthenes on December 29th and sailed to Egypt. In Egypt he was transferred to the 12th Field Artillery Brigade as a gunner but deteriorating health severely limited his service. He was returned to Australia aboard the Port Sydney, disembarked at Melbourne on June 27th 1916 and was discharged ‘medically unfit, general debility (neurasthenia)’ on September 12th.
