Robert Colquhoun Murray (SN 1458) born in Swan Hill, was a 26 year old draper’s assistant when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 21st 1914. He embarked aboard the Shropshire on October 20th and sailed via Albany to Egypt. With the 4th Field Artillery Brigade, he served at Gallipoli through August and September 1915 before being evacuated to England. In November 1917 he moved to France, now with the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade. Towards the war’s end he was further transferred to the Pay Corps. He was granted ‘1914 leave’ and returned to Australia aboard the Port Sydney, disembarked at Melbourne on October 2nd 1918 and was discharged on January 31st 1919. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V365594.
