William Josiah Glasson (SN 1362) born at Mildura, was a 22 year old fruit grower when he enlisted in Ballarat on August 5th 1915. He embarked aboard the Ceramic on November 23rd and sailed to Egypt. As a driver with the 2nd Division Ammunition Column, he moved to France in March 1916. During the early part of his battlefield service, he was hampered by influenza and bronchitis. In July 1917 he was transferred to the 2nd Division Trench Mortar Brigade. He avoided combat wounds but was troubled by tonsilitis. After the fighting ended he was hospitalised at Bulford in England before returning to Australia aboard the Orontes. He disembarked on December 6th 1919 and was discharged on March 8th 1920. He served again in World War 2 with service number V15172.
